CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. — Residents of Central Square were treated to an unexpected dose of spring magic this past weekend, as multiple eyewitnesses claim the Easter Bunny made a surprise appearance throughout the village.
The first reported sighting came early Saturday morning at Central Square Memorial Park, where families arriving for a community egg hunt say they spotted a large, white rabbit hopping between trees—carrying what appeared to be a basket filled with brightly colored eggs.
“At first I thought it was just someone in a costume,” said local parent Jenna Morales. “But then it just… disappeared behind a tree. And when we walked over, there were dozens of eggs on the ground that definitely weren’t there before.”
By midday, reports of similar encounters began surfacing across the village. Residents claimed to have seen the elusive visitor near neighborhood yards, local storefronts, and even briefly outside the municipal building. Some described hearing a soft rustling sound followed by the sudden appearance of candy-filled eggs in unlikely places.
Village officials were quick to acknowledge the unusual reports but stopped short of confirming anything supernatural.
“We’ve heard the stories, and we’re aware of the excitement,” said a spokesperson for the village. “All we can say is that it’s been a very festive and memorable Easter weekend here in Central Square.”
Local businesses embraced the buzz almost immediately. Shops decorated their windows with rabbit-themed displays, and one bakery introduced a limited-time “Bunny Trail Cupcake” after customers claimed to find pastel footprints leading up to its front door.
While skeptics have suggested the sightings could be the result of an elaborate community effort or a particularly enthusiastic volunteer, many residents are choosing to believe otherwise.
“My kids are convinced it was the real thing,” said resident Mark Ellison. “And honestly… after what we saw, I’m not so sure they’re wrong.”
As of Monday morning, no official explanation has been given, and the Easter Bunny—if it truly visited—has already moved on.
But for one weekend in Central Square, the line between holiday tradition and something a little more magical felt just a bit thinner.
